FLIGHT TO FREEDOM: (Drama) Directed by Carlo Carlei (Flight of the Innocent and Ferrari). In the Autumn of 1943 Italy is in total chaos. While the Allied forces have invaded the country and are progressively securing the South of Italy, the Nazis and Mussolini's new Republican forces have a stronghold on the North. In Genoa, Massimo Teglio, a Jewish pilot with connections in high society and with influential friends like the Italian Minister of Aviation, Italo Balbo, is forced to deliver medicine by plane to an ailing Nazi general in Milan. When Colonel Feuerbach, Chief of the German troops in Genoa, discovers that Massimo is a Jew, he orders the Fascist Chief Osvaldo Farina to arrest him and deliver him to the Nazis. Osvaldo, an old friend of Massimo, manages to protect him for a while, but is soon forced to cut all ties with his friend, leaving Massimo a fugitive in his own city.
